Starting off September: Singapore and Swimming
Usually, September brings a sigh of relief because it’s the return of structure! Now that I’m an empty nester, I face a new normal. This September, instead of happily settling into my new routine (i.e., less summer socializing), I’m packing my bags for Singapore and Bali.
I’ve never been to either place, so I’m rather giddy about what this trip will hold language-wise. Before I jet off, though, I wanted to catch up on what I’ve been up to in TropeTalk. I wrote two guest posts in the past few months, which I’m not sure my regular subscribers saw. (I tried cross-posting them, but I don’t know if it worked.) Here are the links:
I also released a new book, Trope Thesaurus Fantasy and Science Fiction. This is where I compiled all my trope examples and explanations for fan favorites in various fantasy and sci-fi subgenres. It was so much fun to write, and I hope you find it inspiring!
Finally, I’ve got two things coming up in September.
1). Do you love Domestic Thrillers from authors like Frieda McFadden, BA Paris, and Alice Feeny? Then join me on September 17 at 7 pm EST; I’m teaching a free webinar. Follow this link to sign up! Three Essential Tropes Every Domestic Thriller Author Needs to Know
I’ve enjoyed reading domestic thrillers and analyzing them in preparation for my upcoming book, Trope Thesaurus Mystery and Thriller. I can’t wait to share what I learned with you. There’s so much murder; I just love it.
2). If you are ready to dive deep into writing your domestic thriller with guidance and support, please check out my course Writing Your Domestic Thriller: Crafting Killer Characters, which will begin through Teachable on September 20th. This course will examine how compelling domestic thrillers are created by studying samples from Gone Girl, Frieda McFadden’s The Housemaid, and Catriona Ward’s Sundial. We have recorded lectures in Teachable with resources, including a copy of my Trope Thesaurus, three live one-hour Zoom Question and Answer sessions (which will be recorded), and a private FB group to share ideas.
I’ve set up this course to be jam-packed with all the thriller goodness we need to know!
So you can see my September will be full of good things because I’ve got some murder talk time on the books. I hope you join me! Murdertalk is even better when shared with like-minded friends.
Later in September, I’ll return with another installment of analyzing a story with tropes and GMC! It’s always fun to ponder the selection pool for that….
Best wishes for a great start to your new month. Remember, September promises structure, so grab it and get to work!
